48 Emotional Integrity (Honesty/Self-Honesty)

Emotional Integrity is not what you do when others are looking, it is what you do when you think no one is (there are no witnesses).

Some may say, “what they (people) don’t know won’t hurt them,” it may not hurt them but it will most certainly hurt you. Why you may ask? because each time you practice to deceive you are…

  1. changing your perception of yourself
  2. reshaping how you see yourself.

Deception changes ones self-perception negatively hence it impacts ones self-esteem and self-worth.

Why practice emotional integrity?

  • Because it is one of the keys to true self-fulfilment and access to your authentic self.

What could be better than living an authentic life? Its achievable, the seeds were planted by the Divine after all with whom we know all is possible.

Sure we undoubtedly will hit road blocks along the way, encounter trials and tribulations that will buckle our knees and test our commitment and endurance and we will falter that's a given, it happens, its called being human, the point is to pick yourself up each time you fall down/give-in to self-deception and you begin again remembering lessons learnt.

QUESTION WE ALL SHOULD ASK OURSELVES REGARDING EMOTIONAL INTEGRITY

  • Do I practice selective emotional integrity?
  • Do I have emotional integrity?
  • Do I truly understand what emotional integrity is?
  • What steps do I take toward learning and implementing emotional integrity
  • How do I maintain emotional Integrity everyday?
  • How do I insert emotional integrity into my philosophy, ethos and approach to living, being and doing?

MINDFULNESS THOUGHT

  1. When I think about it, it seems like there is always someone there as a witness (me) and the potential for others to come along.I agree saying something is so doesn’t in itself make it so.Hugs from Alaska

    1. ah you are absolutely right, the funny thing is "we" sometimes have the tendency to discount ourselves as witnesses.

  2. True, true, true! I love this. Sad though, that so many today don’t care one way or the other, they are content to be less than honest thinking people believe their self assessment.

    1. Yeah, to live with and maintain emotional integrity takes a deep commitment, so often many of us are chastised and disregarded when we operate with integrity. That negative backlash can be discouraging and it feels as if it supports the idea of surrender to seeming "norm" half truths and truths of omissions. It is in these exact moments when we hold true to emotional integrity because without it we are empty

  6. Hmmmm....saying one is honest does not me IS honest! And it is what you do when noone is looking....I LIKE!
Eye-service is what it is called when one does what they want people to see or hear or know, but inside them they have different thoughts.

Well, whatever humans do, GOD is not deceived! HE knows all our thoughts and motives, and HE judges on that!

I couldn't agree more! In fact, as I reflect upon my own trials and tribulations, I seem to be the type to pick myself up from whatever stumbling blocks and continue into my journey. Since I've overcome some major heartache I feel like there's an inner strength which now accompanies my spirit.

    Positive blog.

  14. I don't know Rhapsody, I like to filter through my emotional stack as the situation demands. reality (as I see it) demands one must be selective, self preservation, navigation through the jungle of life etc. so sometimes I'm hopping mad but I grit my teeth and force a smile and vice versa

Thank you for sharing your wisdom/philosophy

The wisdom of discretion (time/place/appropriateness) is always wise, its what the old folk call "choosing your battles" knowing what to lay down and what to pick up, none of those necessary processes/filters negate emotional integrity, in fact it enhances it.

  15. A while back I took a long look within and didn't like what I saw. I'm not the same person I was when I wore a younger man's clothes. So I checked myself and now I'm striving to do much better. I didn't like where my personal brand was going. I decided to make a change.

  16. "What people don't know won't hurt them" smh. I agree it's false because out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. It might not be short term but long term it will affect you.

  17. We can't really change our own perception of ourselves unless we have really changed what we know needs changing, imho. And that's why holier-than-thou attitudes do not pay anyone. Hence the saying...we should remove the log in our eyes before judging others. Emotional integrity is important but most of us humans suck at it as we are so judgmental.

Compliments of the season to you sista and best wishes for the new year.

    1. hmmmmm, indeed "we" are judgmental.
n other words we must be willing to truly listen and not just here so we can examine and take the necessary steps to honor ourselves and emotion integrity.

  19. Nice post and certainly one aspect of life 2013 we should all improve on.

I think sometimes honesty is imperative and but depends on situations. There are times when you may need to protect someone by witholding an honest opinion. There areother scenarios which warrant an honesty to save someone from themselves (particularly the deluded)

However as individuals unless we can find it within to be honest with ourselves, trying to deal with emotional integrity will most certainly feel like the proverbial dog chasing it's tail. Comfort comes when one is truly honest from within.

As it begs the question "can there be such a things as selective emotional integrity?"

Quite insightful, thank you for participating and adding your wisdom to the discussion it really allow me to expand on my thoughts on the subject.

Now I didn't say you would like it, only you can determine that. Its called "The Untethered Soul-the journey beyond yourself" by Michael A. Singer
