20 The Reading Challenge–Join Me.

Current Reading Stats: June 22: 50% = 60 books
Reading2Blessings all. Last year I challenged myself to read more. Why you may ask, because frankly at times I can get reading lazy and not pick up a book for months and let face it the brain needs/requires stimulation. To keep my commitment I gave myself a goal–to read 100 books and a deadline—Dec 31, 2012.
I am happy to say that I accomplished my goal by Dec 24, 2012 before my deadline and surpassed it with an additional 5 more books by years end.
This year 2013, I dare to challenge myself again. My goal,120 books by Dec.31.13.
My Challenge/Invitation to you!
  • Join me, challenge yourselves to read more. It does not have to be 120 books (that just me trying to out do me), it can be any amount that is realistic to you and can easily blend seamlessly into your lifestyle. The point is to read more than you do now.
  • To really make it interesting try reading books outside your usual genre, don't just stay were you’re comfortable, step outside your comfort zone. I promise you the journey will be riveting.
  • At years end (Dec.31.13) I would love if you would share your journey/story/discovery with me, what you’ve learnt and discovered about yourself, your perception, our values and philosophy.

  3. I'm a streak reader. If I read a book that I enjoyed then I move on and read another. If I begin a book and can't get into it then my desire to read passes until I find another piques my interest. Truthfully I will never come close to 100 hundred books but I am in a reading mood again.

    1. Blessings I too have those ebbs and flows, its the reason I challenged myself last year to break out of that habit. I had years where i would only read 1 book.

  6. Hello Rhapsody I just found your blog on someone else's blog roll. I saw the title on of the post and clicked on it.

I have become a non-existent reader. I can barely finish one book a month. I used to read 4-8 books a month. SMH. I have challenged myself last week to read at least 60 books this year.

I will have to reset my Shelfari page.

    1. Reading is about enjoyment, there is no need to rush yourself rather it is to take leisure and pleasure in your reading.
      Thank you.

    1. Ah sistah, the challenge is not to read the amount i read rather it is to challenge yourself to reading more than you usually read and that can be any number. If you read about 3/4 books a year, your challenge be read 5/7. Its about encouraging yourself to give to yourself by taking the time to read and take yourself on an adventure where otherwise in the reality you may not be able to.

  9. I definitely accept this challenge. I used to be an avid reader but life has a way of getting in the way. I will certainly make more time to read more this year than I did last year. Thank you for the challenge. I'm currently reading "The Hunger Games."

  10. I accept the challenge, but not 120 books, hahahaha. Currently reading 'Change Agent' by O. S. Hillman, and my ideologies and perceptions are being positively challenged. Thanks for encouraging others to read. An enlightened mind, equals, one less dangerous person to society because it is so difficult to reason with people who have not exposed their minds or challenged themselves to be better.

    1. Fantastic, its really not about the number rather that you are reading more than you ordinarily do. Me, I just challenging myself with 120 to push myself or else I have a tendency to go long periods without reading at all, its a habit am trying to break.

As Martin Luther King once said "Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity."

While some of us may not have had the opportunity as children to attain an education as adults it is up to us to secure it ourselves whether through self-education or formal education. There really is no excuse. We won't know everything however it is our responsibility to know some things.
