31 Expressing it as is – ‘Take it or leave it~one side of a discussion on a particular philosophy’

If you cannot be your true self,

The person you are to the core

In all your relationships

Whether it be friendships,

Marriage,

Family,

What is the point?

Why are you there?

If not to keep it real,

Be real and make it better,

Why are you there?

What motivates you to stay in a state of relationship decay?

To die a thousand deaths each day ...

Till the soul of your faith gets eaten away

Relinquishing effort for a chameleon’s display

What are you afraid of?

What lies do you tell yourself?

What is the benefit to you living an inauthentic life?

Who do you really think you are fooling?

How long you do plan to keep on pretending

Pointing the finger,

Blaming everybody else but self for your wealth of unhappiness

When are you going to rise up and just be!

Stop selling your soul and your personal integrity

In life you cannot please everybody

To be anything or anyone other than your authentic self …

Is to set yourself up for hurt,

To deliberately guarantee …

An existence filled with disappointments

An endless string of suffocating baggage …

Inherited from the experiences of living a life of self-deception

It is much easier to be yourself and…

A hell of a lot less complicated to be who you are,

Whoever that is,

Whatever that is,

However that is.

It IS ENOUGH.

  1. WONDERFUL! I LOVED YOUR WORDS HERE. I THOUGHT I WAS MYSELF UNTIL JUST RECENTLY (THE PAST 18 MONTHS). I KNOW I AM UNIQUE AND TALENTED AND ‘DIFFERENT’. I FINALLY KNOW THAT I CAN AND SHOULD LIVE MY DAYS FOR ME…YET CARE FOR THOSE I LOVE IN MY OWN WAY. IT’S GOOD. A FRIEND FROM HIGH SCHOOL ALWAYS SIGNS OFF HIS CORRESPONDENCE WITH….TREASURE YOURSELF, DIANNA

PS . I COULD GO ON FOREVER ON THIS SUBJEST, BUT I GIVE PRAISE THAT I HAVE FINALLY SEEN THE LIGHT!

Interesting piece…but with a personal touche to it.
Trying to please others all in the name of being a ‘Mr. Nice Guy’ or showing that we need to care for others is somewhat obvious in me; i know one needs to reach out to others but at what cost and detriment to oneself? i recently said NO to a request made by my younger sister when she called me on the phone and said that she needed money for the drugs she bought while she was sick and admitted in the hospital. On a good day, Moi would have consented to her request but now, i gotta be me, face my life and handle my relationship in the best way to bring out the best expected result for me and the other party.

Thanks Dear for bringing this up…..

  3. Hey Thanks for adding to my "Your Random-Acts" spot on my space . Wish more people would.NOW about this post …. Thank You… Just like "Mama of the Kastle Kidz" I did not understand I wasn’t being honest with myself until after I was tricked into getting sober. yeah tricked !! It was a setup all the way. Anyway, now, well into my 6th year I have a bit of a clue on "To Thine Own Self Be True" Thanks for the Reminder. I still want people to like me. I sometimes go out of my way to help another. But this time. I do it because I honestly want to, not to manipulate. Sometimes when asked I still say NO!! …. See Its easier to say No and change my mind to Yes than to say Yes and change my mind to No. With me what ya see is what ya get. like it or not.

  16. Whatever be the reason, most of us disguise ourselves and show a different face than our own.The motivations may be many but the truth is we show our unreal selves. The truth cannot be hidden forever and the fake face would be ripped apart. The message that we should be true to ourselves fearlessly and honestly has been put across forcefully by Rhapsody.

  27. Such truth in this poem. Reminds me of Ibhade's post.
It is always so much easier and less stressful to be yourself. The thing is one cannot hide in a lie forever, why punish oneself daily fearing being found out... I dont know why some people do it...

  28. Someone said, "...a relationship is not supposed to be hard work...." so, if one's relationship (work, family, friends) is hardwork and does not allow one to be oneself, tis not exactly worth it.

  29. Hello,

Lovely write up and very useful information. Very modern thinking. I think this is the reason why many marriages are breaking up. People marry, live together for a few years and then find someone else whom they think are more compatible and the earlier marriage ends of in divorce. Children not only suffer in the process but they also learn the same thing from the parents and perhaps do even worse. We also know of people having children out of wedlock and others who are single parents. Recently I read about the Australian lady Finance minister who is a gay and her partner is expecting a child from a male relationship. All these are modern ways of living. I am amazed and bewildered at what is happening all around me.

    Best wishes,
    Joseph
