38 HAPPY NEW YEAR - New Years Resolutions

BLESSINGS ALL, IN TRIBUTE TO THE YEARLY RITUAL OF RESOLUTIONS  – A REPOST THAT’S FITTING. I WISH YOU ALL LOVE, PEACE, SUCCESS & JOY

HNYThis is the time when most people make resolutions – promises that are for the most part external, at least those are the ones we are bombarded with. The resolutions range from dedicating oneself to a eating better food i.e. a healthier lifestyle, daily exercise, the pursuit of dreams deferred to what seem to be the global number one on everyone's list weight-loss. The list of diets are endless, there is the 100-Mile Diet, Alkaline diet, Atkins diet, Blood Type Diet, Breatharian diet, Buddhist diet, Cabbage Soup Diet, Cookie diet, Detox diet, Diabetic diet, Dr. Hay diet, Earth Diet, Feingold diet, Grapefruit diet, Herbalife diet, Hallelujah diet, Jenny Craig diet, Nutrisystems Diet, Raw food diet, Low fat/low sodium diet, Liquid diet, South Beach diet, Shangri-La Diet, Subway diet, Weight Watchers diet to the Zone diet and I am sure there is at least a hundred more other diets I haven’t even heard about. Heck the weight-loss companies are gearing up their campaigns to entice, seduce and lure us into choosing their programs. If you listen carefully you can almost here the chi-ching money sound of their cash registers locking in the money.

While I don’t see anything wrong with cultivating a healthy lifestyle, exercising, learning about and implementing proper nutrition (in fact I support it), lets not lose ourselves and our value in the parade of messages in the race to be thin. Seldom does one hear of resolutions encouraging mindfulness which envelopes such things as responsibility, accountability, consideration and kindness that requires one to work on the mind/body/spirit connection as well as our connections to others and how we impact and inform their lives when we interact. It will only benefit us all if are cognoscente of the fact that while we are indeed important we are not the only ones in the world. It doesn’t take much of an effort. Actually it is as simplistic as….

  • Taking the time to think before you speak and consider the intent of your words
  • Counting to ten before expressing your opinion(s) understanding clearly what you want to convey
  • Considering the consequences to your actions and reactions to people, particular situations and under certain circumstances
  • Asking questions to ensure clarity and understanding before responding
  • Holding yourself accountable when you become judgmental
  • Understanding that at any given time life can change on a dime and your situation can become untenable and you may need a hand out or a hand up
  • Taking responsibility for poor judgments
  • Forgiving yourself your mistakes and learning from the teachable moments
  • Saying “I don’t know” when you don’t know and not pandering to the ego that insist you pretend otherwise
  • Refusing to be participate in gossip, if you cannot say it face to face with the source of your discontent then don't say it at all
  • Be willing to be wrong and understanding that being wrong is not a bad thing. It is simply a lesson to learn from.
  • Seeing people for who they are and not whom you would want them to be
  • Accepting people as they are or be willing to walk away and let them be if you cannot
  • Asking for help when you need it for there isn't one person in the world who hasn't needed someone's help or wouldn't need it again in the future
  • Giving help where you can when you can
  • Giving value to all you have to share and understanding that even your time is precious
  • and loving yourself unconditionally

Those are my resolutions for this year along with a few goals I am creating for myself. I am working on mind, body, soul and spirit along with documenting in a diary of daily lessons learnt. I plan to keep track daily, therein lies the challenge.

  1. I can relate to many of the things you have said.In fact in a recent conversation with a friend, I was judgmental on some issues without knowing the facts and without ascertaining the information.Though she was gracious to overlook my indiscretion,it has been rankling in my mind eversince.
This post is an eye opener to my flaws.Thank you Rhapsody for the wonderful post

    1. ah Namaste my friend. That's the thing, we all are flawed its what makes us human. The beautiful part am reading (though its a year later) is that you are opening to learning knew ways of being and experiencing the world, what can be better than that? We all can learn well to cultivate such a value.

Thanks for sharing, it is inspiring and hopeful.

hehehe where did you get that list of diets, they are so many of them,, i absolutely agree with you, no matter how much we diet if we dont love and accept who and what we are in this very moment nothing really changes it gets worse.
loving ourselves unconditionally is the most important thing we can do for ourselves.

Unconditional self-love is important and for most of us the biggest challenge of them all.

  7. I am going to go out on a limb here and say that I have been reading a lot of new year resolutions being made by women to lose weight and inches. Well, if that is really what you want and your goal, then all the more power to you. However, it's important to remember that the most beautiful thing a woman can ever wear is confidence. Plus, there are still some of us men that prefer a more voluptuous women than your barbie dolls. :P

    1. Oh wow, nice lesson to get from a man. "he most beautiful thing a woman can ever wear is confidence." I'll hold to that, I am glad I reposted this entry because i would not have remembered that. Thanks for the reminder and the lesson. 2013 I shall add strengthening self-confidence-this is a wonderful addition to my resolutions. Thanks Seth.

    1. Yes Seth. In 2012 I have met all of them and still in progress, they will carry through 2013 and beyond as I have added them to my philosophy and ethos. Doing so makes it harder to fall off the wagon permanently.

  9. Hello,

Let me first of all wish you a wonderful new year filled with health, success, prosperity and all happiness.

Your resolutions are fantastic and surely they will help you to become a marvelous human being. The only hitch is that it is easy to list out resolutions but it is extremely tough to keep them.It will require great determination and will power to adhere to your resolutions. The temptations are just too many to break or give up the resolutions one by one.I hope you will be able to make a review of the same after three months and see for yourself how many of your resolutions you were able to keep and how many you could not.

It is great to make resolutions because we will at least get to know our shortcomings and find ways to overcome them.

I hope and pray that you will get the mental strength to keep these resolutions.
    Joseph

    1. Very good assessment, to each his/her own. Not much of an resolution person myself t'is why this works for me because its what I am constantly working on. They are more disciplines/guides if you will. To implement it more formally just makes it more manageable in the sense that i can check in, take an account so to speak.

Goals are good. They give one purpose.
May your goals be realized and new ones be charted.

      peace.

  15. Good resolutions. Definitely a departure from the norm. We don't see more of this because it is harder to work on "inner-me", the inner man, than on superficial things.

  18. Happy New year. Your post about the need to take resolutions that are really meaningful in helping us grow as humans is very important. The rest ... about losing weight and all that is only superficial where change is concerned!
