9 Photographic Conversation - Some Buildings Around the Intersection of College & Elisabeth in Toronto

Victoria Hospital For Sick Children

Victoria Hospital For Sick ChildrenOpened in May 1892, It was the first hospital in Canada designed exclusively for paediatrics that incorporated innovative techniques such as X-rays in 1896 and a milk pasteurization plant in 1909. The hospital left the building in 1951. It is now the state-of-the-art Canadian Red Cross regional blood centre for Toronto and central Ontario researching, testing, distributing blood and blood products. MaRS center (Medical and Related Sciences) is a not-for-profit corporation founded by leaders from the business and public sectors to improve commercial outcomes from Canada’s foundation of science, technology, and social innovation. If you look behind you will see the merging of old and new architectural designs as the front facade of the old Toronto General Hospital building is maintained and the new more modern design envelops it.  These kinds of blend of old and new can be seen peppered along some areas in Toronto. 101 College Street near University Avenue. the MaRS Centre

This building is located right at the intersection of College Street and Elisabeth Street. I don’t really know what it is but I believe it belongs to the University of Toronto. Building on College & ElizabethThe University of Toronto has many of these sweet detailed architectural diamond medleys. If you ever had the opportunity to visit Toronto and you are into architecture take a walk around the university’s grounds. Its huge, it starts at University and College, goes west to Spadina and College, South on Spadina to Bloor and east on bloor to St.George. It will take you a while to cover all the grounds as their a many streets between the major intersections I’ve mentioned. My first time attending university there I was royally lost, heavy emphasis on the “royally” but that’s another story for another time. Lets just say as a student your first time there you will need a map to figure how to get from point A to point B and the patience of Job. If you are lucky you will find someone whose been there long enough to know exactly how to direct you. aaaah….Buildings like these are disappearing quickly replaced with the new architecture that doesn’t always leave room for the old facade.

(¸.•´ (¸.•` ¤ Very nice photos. Thank you for the mini tour. There is something special about finding beauty in places that we don't expect it. That is why I love looking at rust and decay, peeling paint, and old buildings and unique architecture. They were once new and beautiful. Why do they have to stop being beautiful when they get old?
