11 Bumped without apology

Ishida by Tite Kebo I don't understand people's refusal to acknowledge when they accidentally hit or bump into someone. One morning I was standing by the bus stop waiting for the bus to go to work chattering with an acquaintance in useless yet amusing chatter bumped by a man walking in the opposite direction. I stood facing south so I could see when the bus was coming when a gentleman walked pass me hitting me on my right shoulder with his shoulder and kept on walking without so much as a sorry. I stopped talking and looked back at the receding back of the man and said loudly, "THANK YOU!" although what I really wanted to do was to snatch his face. He immediately turned around and apologized, "I'm sorry" and resumed walking this time at a faster pace.

Really? Why was it so hard for him to say sorry when he bumped into me at the time he bumped into me? I mean dang the Neanderthal was just walking away ladi-dah unconcerned and unapologetic until I called his attention to his actions. After all the sidewalk does not have WALLS so he must have known that he hit something or someone. For crap sake he hit me had enough to move me so what's up with that?

  1. Girl, I’ve come to the realization that a whole lot of folks out here have no "brought-up-see". What you did, is exactly what I would usually do when something like that happens to me – I look the person in the eyes and loudly say "well, I’m sorry" with as much sarcasm and attitude as I could muster. Some of them feel embarassed and apologize and the real snubs just keep it moving.

  3. Sometimes it’s a cultural thing. South Koreans are usually very polite people except the perception of personal space is quite different here than it is in the west. What may be persived as rude behavior (i.e bumping into someone) is par for the course over here and not to be taken personally.

  4. So many people are just wrapped up in their own little worlds and whether it’s intentional or not just seem oblivious to what’s around them. They either ignore other people because they’re so self absorbed or because they couldn’t be bothered.

  5. No excuse, other than totally tuned out and, still no excuse. Perhaps he was talking to the mother ship and soon, they will all be gone! Life on earth was just not what they were looking for after all. Oh joy, oh joy space runs that way man! Have a great galactic cruise.

  6. You have made a very good point. Something that really gets to me is when I do something for someone and they don’t respond with a thank you. That is when I say "You are welcome."

  7. Unless there are such characters we will never appreciate the large majority of good ones.It is the attitude of remorse or guilt that is more important than mouthing of cliches.I also see no merit in forcing out a reluctant sorry from such insensitive individual

  10. There is no need for rudeness it only take a second to be polite. People are so wrapped up in their own little worlds, or mobile phone's etc. You are so right in being cross, have a good day . Take care Sheila x
