33 WANTS: LOST IN THE “I WANT”

A reminder to self: Do Not Dismiss the "I"
majestic sunsetToo often we get lost in the “I want” of our desires that we erase the “I” in “me.” We “want” someone to slay our dragons, rescue us, love us unconditionally, make the monsters in our lives go away, Teflon us from the wicked challenges life can at time throw our way. At times we are so submerged and entrenched in it that we get lost in the dream of “I want” rendering ourselves by default irrelevant, powerless, inefficient, insufficient, inadequate, not enough.
If we are to be triumphant and be conquerors in our lives it would be benefit us to understand that when we begin the litany of “I want,” in the privacy of our minds wishing “somebody” would…
Love you as you are
Support you
Accept you
See you
Hear you
Acknowledge you
Take you out
Buy you things
Make you feel ten feet tall and invisible
That you DO NOT dismiss the “I” in that somebody
YOU ARE SOMEBODY too
And loving you,
Providing for you
Accepting you
Supporting you
Is YOUR responsibility
It should be YOUR priority
It begins with you
YOU
Set the example
YOU
Lay the foundation of how you are too be treated
YOU
Set the standard
YOU
Are the template
Everyone that encounters you must be required to meet that standard or elevate it
For
If YOU don’t do for YOU
If YOU don’t advocate for YOU
If YOU don’t have your own back
Accept YOU, as you are
Whom do you expect to?
YOU
Are the key to your destiny, desires, wants and aspirations
Do not dismiss the “I” for the possibility of a maybe.

  2. Good words of wisdom. One can put too much expectation in others and forget that put the treasure on the inside of us.

  3. I am reminded of John F. Kennedy's inaugural address in 1961and his famous words, "ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country".

    2. so true, rhapsody! often we focus on entitlement when we should focus on and work toward what we can create and can do in our lives. expecting others to do everything for us and be our everything can be so crippling, creating our life, with the help of the Lord, so empowering! this of course doesn't mean we don't ask for help when we need it. its just all about attitude. there's so much we can do, so we should make our dreams come true - with the help of the Lord. thanks for reminding us!

    3. Very insightful Krissy. You are so right, we can help ourselves achieve our dreams and there is nothing wrong with asking for help or support but we must endeavor to do our part on our own behalf.

  4. Very on point. So often (most of the time) we forget the most important person in our lives is our self.

    1. Yes Efua we do it at times unconsciously and at times consciously because we do not believe in ourselves and our worth.
