42 Manners-Please, cover yuh damn mouth

Observation, pet peeves, grievances, I haven’t written anything on these subject matters in a while. Why because I was trying to be all Zen, stay all philosophical, on the righteous path sailing blissfully on a positive vibe. You get my drift however my mood has been altered slightly by a trend I’ve been subjected to-people yawning in your face without putting their hands over their mouths. I encounter this daily in my commute to and from work, on the trains, in the buses and in the streetcars and this last Friday was no exception. Thus, I am annoyed. Hence, I got to keep it real and let loose of the negative energy infiltrating my system in the form of annoyance. This shit is just bugging my ass and frankly I got to vent or else I will tell somebody off and more than likely it will not be pretty, delicate or quiet.

Tell me, what is so hard about raising your hand and covering your mouth when you are yawning? hmmmm? What is so hard about that? Can somebody tell me? huh? I mean....For the Love of all that is Divine & Holy! Why can’t/won’t people cover their damn mouths when they yawn! I do not care if they use a foot, a hand, a bag, somebody else’s hand, turn their face to the wall, in a book, whatever, just cover your damn mouths.

Now don't get me wrong, I understand it’s a free world and I can certainly appreciate that people can and will do, what they want, when they want, how they want, but for pete's sakes don't forcibly subject me to it. I don’t care to see inside anyone’s mouth. Frankly I have no bloody desire to see down their blasted throats! Neither do I wait with bated breath to see their nasty-ass black, red blistered, white patched tongues, jacked up teeth with a million black fillings and teeth so yellow and caked with plague that it rivals cheddar cheese!

It does not make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside by the sight of the endless array of fillings looking like black lava holes in your faces.

Neither do I desire to see your tonsils, or tongues, that either heavily spotted with black spots, seriously coated with some heavy white overlaid of whatever.

And I most definitely have no earthly wish to smell funky toxic breath that not only threatens to singe the hair off my face, but also to droop my eyes lashes and blister my eyes making them burn till they water

I am not a physician, ENT specialist or a Dentist! So please people spare me! and ...Please! Please! Please! For mercy's sake, put cover your mouths when you yawn!

What’s your pet peeve?

  1. definite agreement there, whats worse is that yawns are contagious, so if one person does it, everyone else does too, its terrible. anywho, hope yer war against yawns goes well.

  3. this is ordinarily funny but then,i’ll agree with you that it’s a public issue that need various inputs as well as opinions.

what some people who are in this category that you aptly described above fail to see is the fact that their breath as well as how they speak is part and parcel of their personality and while i’ll not like to join issues as to the factors that have counted to this, i’ll simply go all the way to chip in a point that people should exercise self-restraint whenever they want to talk or make a comment or opinion. and they should cultivate not only a self-developing attitude but a self-cleanliness approach in their everyday life.

    cheers!

  5. I'll confess that I'm guilty of sometimes yawing without covering my mouth. But my mouth is very clean and gorgeous :p. By the way, I yawned three times-- make that four-- without covering my mouth while reading this post.

    1. haha......You can yawn as much as you want without covering your mouth that's your prerogative I really don't care as long as i don't have to be subjected to it or the insides of your mouth.

    1. Well such luck hasn't bestowed me so I have to find ways of dealing with it, one is to vent as i am here the other is to put my ear phones in my ear and close my eyes or put my head in a book and read.

    1. Yes it can, while i respect a persons right to be and do as they see fit I take issue with being forceably subject to their bad manners

  10. I agree it is a nauseating sight.Whie we cannot teach basic etiquette to the whole world,we have the option to close our eyes or turn our head to different direction. That is easier and within our control. What you are asking is like asking people not to fart in public places but what you really do is to cover your nose with your scented kerchief.

    1. Namaste.....hehe, quite a comparison, hands over mouth verses not farting in public.

  11. Hahaha. Yeah it's very very annoying and oh-so-irky. Huge faux-pas. Right now, A guy just yawned with his mouth wide open in the office. I felt like slapping the black off him.

    1. |i haven't heard that turn of phrase in a long time.."slap the black off"

sometimes i give them this evil disgusted look some have the grace to at least attempt at putting their hands to cover up even though they are half-way through and i shamed them into it.

  13. I'm inclined to agree . . . this is particularly difficult when partially digested lunch is a part of the yawn. No need for the assault, please cover up.

  14. I don't like the dentist because when i am going to see him that make me really feel as though I don't want to see him anymore. I agree with you with the feeling of looking at someone with a mouthful of fillings that are grey and ugly. I'm no dentist but at least ask the dentist to fill the teeth with a white filling rather than grey ugly fillings. Even when you yawn it would be nice to cover your mouth and not show everyone you tonsils!!!!!!

    1. I am with you, i don't much like going to the dentist either, unfortunately its a necessary evil.....

    1. I to tire and for the most part turn my face, close my eyes or read a book but its those unexpected times when you turn to find you are stearing at the insides of someones mouth-it is not always pleasant believe me.

  16. You are right. I guess that one's freedom to misbehave ends where another person's personal space begin. Easier said than done anyway. Lord have mercy!

  17. My pet peeve would be listening to noise some people make while chewing/eating...OMG, I just cannot deal with the noise.

As for those who yawn with their wide mouth open, I just give the side-eye.

    1. Oh sweet Jesus, don't get me started on that one because Lord have mercy I will never stop. I have had to get up from seats and move waaaaaaay back so i don't have to be subjected to pig snapping chap chap chap. Heavenly father I had to talk myself down from slapping a girl who was doing it loudly right behind me. I gave her one wicked look-if looks could kill, she woulda been dead.
Only hogs i know chew like that.......eech!

in the privacy of your home you could yawn with all parts of you open I am not privvy to it, so its all good...

  19. Hahaha you crack me up I was giggling through the entire post colourful choice of words. I agree with you its not nice and has a lot to do with upbringing too. Even when am in my own company I insrinctively cover my mouth when I yawn always done that asI was thought from childhood its bad manners to open your mouth that wide to the world.

One of my other pet peeves is when people are eating and you gotta hear every slurp of their food. Close your blooming mouth I dont need to hear you eating. Another terrible habit is people who leave their mouths gappingly open even when they are not talking. There are things that need to be corrected at childhood otherwise people grow up and find it difficult to change.

I mean what could be more unsightly than a grown ass man or woman, suited and booted sitting on a bus sucking on their thumb whilst reading a book. I 've seen it and just had to shake my head!

loud, noisy eaters/drinkers....eeewww gets on my last nerve. If am in public i just get up and leave the immediate vecinity if am home i will tell the person, close your mouth and chew.

I mean on hogs slop there food and the only place its appropriate.

  20. Hahaha you crack me up Rhapsody I was giggling through out the entire post. On a serious note though manners begin at home and in our childhood things that are not corrected follow some people into adult hood.

Even with the yawning thing I instinctively cover my mouth even in my own company I was told from early on growing up it was bad manners to
leave your mouth gappingly open like that.

My other pet peeve has got to be people who eat and chew and slurp like a goat. I dont need to hear you eat your damn food. Its possible to eat in silence.

I once saw a grown as woman on a bus sucking her thumb whilst reading her book. Obviously her habit had not been corrected and now stuck even in adulthood

I have no desire to see the insides of people's mouths.

Whether they learn manners as child to me is is relevant yet invalid because as adults they should know better. What they were not taught as children they can very well learn as adults. No excuses really, and how pathetic it will sound for them to blame their parents for lack of manners as grown men and women? They are grown there for accountable for their own actions and inaction.
